Polk County deputy and fire rescue paramedic became trapped in a patrol car during Hurricane Irma after live wires came down on top of it.
Sgt. Chris Lynne and James Tanner Schaill became trapped late Sunday night as Hurricane Irma blew through Central Florida.
The men were traveling from Lakeland Regional Health Medical where they had dropped off an elderly patient when the live power pole and electrical lines fell onto the car on Lakeland Hills Boulevard near Robinson Street.
Lakeland Electric crews were able to disconnect the lines, and both men were safely able to escape the car two hours after the lines fell.
Both have returned to work to assist in hurricane recovery efforts.
