A Photographer Actually Refused to Shoot a Woman's C-Section Because It's "Not Birth"

Imagine deciding to have a photographer be part of your birthing plan, only to be shamed for having a C-section and told it's "not birth." This happened to one woman, who posted a screenshot of her conversation with a potential photographer to Facebook group Sanctimommy—and the update has since, understandably, made people very, very unhappy.

“A surgery isn't birth, my dear," the photographer told the potential client in a text message. "You aren’t giving birth. You are having surgery to remove your baby from your abdomen. That is not birth no matter how you swing it, and I for one don’t want to be there to take pictures of it."

And they go on:

“If you decide to give motherhood a go from the get, let me know, and we can schedule your session,” reads part of the exchange.

As if that logic isn’t enough to baffle you, the photographer also insinuates the client was trying to “cut corners” by having a cesarean. Anyone who's experienced giving birth this way, or knows someone who has, is aware that recovering from this major surgery is the opposite of cutting corners.

Not surprisingly, the mothers and members of Sanctimommy were ready and willing to help educate the photographer, who really should think about finding a new day job.
