In honor of our five year anniversary, my husband Ben and I, along with Lewis our Labradoodle, decided to explore a part of Florida we'd never visited, which is how we ended up in Fort White nestled along the Santa Fe River.
Fort White is just a few hours north of Orlando... about a half hour outside of Gainesville.
Through ABNB, we booked a cabin at Bowman's Landing. It was an adorable tiny house. It was new and clean and equipped with everything you need for a weekend of "glamping".
The Santa Fe River runs about 75 miles and spreads across southern Columbia, southern Suwannee, western Bradford, far southern Baker, Union, northern and eastern Gilchrist, and northern Alachua counties. It's also super popular among divers as Springs like Gilchrist Blue,Ginnie, Hornsby, Lily,Poe, and Rum Island springs are located at the banks of the river.
Bowman's Landing offered free canoes and Kayaks, which we took advantage of and with great success. Unfortunately, we didn't have much faith in our ability to canoe with a large dog on board, so we left our camera behind, but trust me, we did okay.
It was actually a great lesson in teamwork and we were celebrating five years of wedded teamwork, weren't we?
Bowman's Landing also offered charcoal grills, so we cooked one night and went into nearby High Springs for dinner the second night.
All in all, we had a great time.
It was a perfect Florida staycation, except for one thing.
