Rays Sweep Yankees To Advance To ALCS

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees 4-3 on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium. With the win, the Rays have swept the best-of-five series with New York and are headed to the ALCS for the third time in franchise history.

The Rays and Yankees traded single runs in the third and fourth inning. In the top of the sixth inning Victor Mesa Jr hit a two-run home run that would prove to be the difference in the game. In the bottom of the sixth Anthony Volpe hit a ball that appeared to be over the fence in left center field - but it was ruled a double because of fan interference that made it 4-3 Tampa Bay.

That would prove to be the final score in the game after Brian Baker got the final three outs in the ninth inning to save all three games of the series. Ian Seymour (1-1, 2.08) was the winning pitcher in this game - he was the first out of the bullpen following Nick Martinez. In the start Martinez allowed two earned runs on five hits in three and two-third innings of work while striking out three and walking one.

The Rays now advance to their third ALCS where they will face either the Cleveland Guardians or the Chicago White Sox. You can hear every Rays game all season long on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
