A South Florida Coast Guard crew has successfully executed a dramatic international medical evacuation. An aircrew from Air Station Miami deployed an H-C 144 airplane to the Bahamas after receiving reports that a 9-year-old American boy was mauled by stray dogs on a public beach in Bimini.
The rescue team safely transported the boy, transferring him directly to local EMS crews for emergency treatment at Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Medical personnel initially classified his extensive injuries as serious and potentially life-threatening. The child suffered multiple severe bite wounds across his face, head, right thigh, left leg, and one of his arms during the attack.
