The New York Yankees (68-57) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (61-65) 13-3 on Tuesday night at Steinbrenner Field to hand the Rays their second straight loss.
After a rain delay of an hour and fifty-five minutes before the first pitch was thrown, the Yankees hit nine home runs off Tampa Bay to key the blowout. It was the most homers allowed by the Rays in a single game in franchise history. Shane Baz (8-10, 5.22) lasted only three innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking two.
The Rays will look to bounce back when they meet the Yankees in the second game of the short three-game series on Wednesday night. First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 7:35 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
