Christina Applegate announced her father, Robert Applegate's death on the Tuesday (April 29) episode of her MeSsy Podcast with co-host Jamie Lynn Sigler.
The Bad Moms actress revealed "this is the first time I've really cried" after speaking about her father's passing.
"My dad just passed away a week ago. This is the first time I've really cried. I think kind of, like, I wasn't allowing myself to have that yet. Too busy with this, too busy with that."
Speaking to guest JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Applegate explained that she knew her father was close to dying, but that didn't make it any easier to say goodbye.
"Is that an excuse for not feeling? Because you know that someone's gonna go? And you've said your goodbyes?"
The star also opened up about her relationship with her father, commenting on her parent's separation when she was just five months old.
"You know, I didn't grow up with my dad. He and my mom separated when I was five months old, but he's been in my life ever since. I have two beautiful siblings and an amazing stepmother from [him]."
She also mentioned that her dad wasn't present for "the lessons part" of her life but previously referred to herself as "part of him and part of his personality" during a genealogy show in 2013 (per Entertainment Weekly).
