Miami-Dade Sheriff Urges Domestic Violence Victims to Speak Out

A woman trying to escape her violent husband has Miami-Dade's top cop telling victims, like her, to reach out for help. A woman saying her estranged husband found her at her new Southwest Miami-Dade home and confronted her. The violence caught on the 911 call she made, complete with the sound of gunfire, sending Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputies scrambling. When deputies arrived, they encountered the suspect outside with a gun. The deputy fired, killing the man.

Sheriff Rosie Cordero Stutz is urging victims of domestic violence to do what this woman did.

"If you are an individual who is in crisis and with a domestic violence situation, call 911. Please let us come to help you. That is our job, and we will do it gladly, " said Sheriff Stutz.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a standard investigation of the shooting.
