How the Grinch Stole Christmas has become a beloved Christmas movie, and its star, Mr. Grinch himself is played by Jim Carrey. But, the character's role was almost taken by another actor — John Stamos.

In a new episode of "'Tis The Grinch Holiday Podcast," Stamos recalls auditioning for the role of the much loved Christmas villain, but couldn't because he was allergic to the prosthetics of the intricate costume. He recalled, "Hey, you know, I have something. Here's an interesting fact you don't know about me," adding, "I was originally going to play you in the movie that Jim Carrey got. Did you know that? I went to the makeup test."

Stamos remembered, "And I was allergic to the, you know, all the prosthetics."

Speaking of Grinch makeup, Carrey recently weighed in on whether or not he would reprise his role in a sequel. While promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 ahead of its release, speaking to ComicBook, Carrey said he would love to be the Grinch again — but only if they could figure out a way to do it without him having to go through the intricate process of transforming into the character with all the makeup. He explained, "The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process. The children were in my mind all the time. 'It's for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.' And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world."
