Comedian Bill Maher threatened to quit his HBO hosting gig over fear of former President Donald Trump winning the 2024 presidential election during a Club Random podcast interview with actress Jane Fonda recorded prior to Trump's victory last month, which premiered on Sunday (December 1).

“It’s hard to believe,” Maher said, adding that he was "s**tting my pants" over Trump's potential election victory at the time.

The comedian added that he "may quit" hosting Real Time with Bill Maher "because I don't want to do another" four years discussing Trump and his policies.

“I did Trump,” Maher said. “I did all the Trump stuff before anybody. I called him a con man before anybody. I did. He’s a mafia boss. I was the one who said he wasn’t going to concede the election. I’ve done it.”

Fonda then asked Maher why Trump wasn't actively "hostile" toward him in a way that he is with other critical talk show hosts such as Jimmy Kimmel, to which the comedian claimed otherwise.

“He’s very hostile to me. He tweets about me every week,” Maher retorted. “Every week he accidentally watches my show and then [writes], ‘Low ratings, loser.'”

Fonda then suggested Maher select a new topic on his HBO show, to which the comedian said he had no choice but to discuss the president-elect.

“The show is the politics. There’s no other thing, and he’s going to dominate the news like he always does,” Maher responded.
