With the abortion issue to be decided by Florida voters in November, Democrat and Republican leaders are sounding off. Florida Senator Blaise Ingoglia says the 15-week ban made Florida an abortion haven for people from other states with more restrictive bans.
He says, "We were leading the nation, unfortunately, in abortions for people coming into the state. Broward and Miami-Dade Counties accounted for the most abortions in Florida followed by out-of-state in third.
Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is aghast at the 6-week ban that will go into effect on May first calling it "extreme."
Amendment 4 would provide a constitutional right to abortion before fetal viability around 24 weeks or when necessary to protect the patient's health, as determined by the patient's healthcare provider.
