More Than 200 Florida Sites Expected for Drug Takeback Day Saturday

FLORIDA -- Saturday is national Prescription Drug Takeback Day. Law enforcement agencies across the state are expected to take part.

Some locations will be at police stations, while others will be at drug stores or medical facilities. Most will only take pills, but some will also accept needles and syringes.

The idea behind Takeback Day is to remove potentially harmful and addictive drugs before they're used for overdoses or fall into the drug trade.

Takeback Day is held twice a year. Last October's event brought in almost 33,000 pounds of drugs in Florida alone.

Most sites will be open Saturday morning and early afternoon. Some at colleges and universities will be open Thursday through Sunday.

In Hillsborough County, these sites will open from 9:30 a.m.to 2 p.m.:

  • Walgreens 4651 W Kennedy Blvd, Tampa Florida 33609
  • CVS 102 S Dale Mabry, Tampa Florida 33609
  • Walgreens 17511 N Bruce B Downs, Tampa Florida 33647
