The Presidential Inaugural Committee announced the news on Thursday (January 14), revealing that the “Born This Way” superstar will perform the national anthem at the 90-minute Celebrating America television special in Washington D.C., with the Latin superstar expected to deliver a musical performance of her own.
“I am deeply honored to be joining @BidenInaugural on January 20 to sing the National Anthem and celebrate the historic inauguration of @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris! 💙” reads a message from the Star Is Born actress, who has been a staunch and outspoken supporter of the Biden-Harris administration in 2020.
Lopez is the latest star to join the growing lineup of highly-anticipated performances set for the January 20 event, which will include presentations from previously-announced performers Demi Lovato, Jon Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, and Ant Clemons.
The inauguration gig marks another major event for Lopez, who co-headlined last year’s Super Bowl halftime show alongside Shakira with an empowering Latinx-inspired presentation.
"They represent one clear picture of the grand diversity of our great nation and will help honor and celebrate the time-honored traditions of the presidential inauguration as President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris take the oath of office on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol," inaugural committee CEO Tony Allen said of the star-studded lineup in a statement. "They are also committed to the President-elect and the Vice-President-elect's steadfast vision of a new chapter in our American story in which we are an America united in overcoming the deep divisions and challenges facing our people, unifying the country, and restoring the soul of our nation."
Celebrating America will be hosted by veteran actor Tom Hanks and aired across all major networks at 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, January 20.
