Leslye Gale's Marriage Tested While On Vacation

Every year my husband and I try to get away in July.

It's a quiet time for us at the radio station and it's also my husband's birthday.

This year he celebrated a milestone birthday. Originally we had planned to take an Alaskan cruise with his brothers, but the pandemic put an end to that and to every other plan we put together.

Fortunately, we have some very good friends who have a house on the golf course in Mount Mitchell, North Carolina. The four of us enjoy golfing together, so it was a blessing when they extended an invitation.

If you're just getting to know us, my husband Ben and I are pretty busy people and even during this pandemic, we haven't been able to spend any real quality time together.

Vacations are usually when we connect, but this year with all of its complications, it seemed harder for us to find common ground.

Maybe it's all the stress over COVID-19, or the economy, or our children, or God forbid, our health!

Needless to say, after being stuck in a car for 10 hours and then in someone else's home, our issues seemed to bubble to the surface faster than ever before.

It's always disappointing fighting on vacation, especially when you're with friends, but it happens and it happened to us.

It wasn't anything serious and like so many couples, we seem to forget why we were even arguing.

In the end, we kissed and made-up.

I guess we needed the vacation more than we even thought.

I hope you get the chance to steal away, even for a long weekend.

It helps.
