Turns out dogs can't feel shame so if you're one of those people that get angry at your dog after it misbehaves, maybe you think Fido actually feels bad when he cowers and puts his tail between his legs. You'd be wrong. Researchers say that dogs can't actually feel shame. Dr. Bonnie Beaver says a dog's guilty look is likely just a reaction to the tantrum you are throwing over the damage done, and not because it feels remorse. Beaver says, "Just get over it and remind yourself not to put temptation in the way next time." However this finding hasn't stopped people from posting thousands of submissions of photos with their dogs looking guilty next to a sign detailing their offense.
